Best way to clean?
Hey...
I just have what I hope is a simple question... What is the best way to clean old silver coins? Any heal would be appreciated. Thanks! |
Re: Best way to clean?
The best thing is to not clean them at all unless you know that they are junk silver. There is nothing worse than cleaning a 1921-S Walking Liberty and removing half of it numismatic value if not more.:albertein
If you want to remove gunk try using acetone to dip the coins in. This will remove the dirt but leave the toning that dealers want to see on the coin. It is hard to leave them alone but it is the best. If you want a shiny coin just buy a silver round and a bottle of dip. 65GT350 |
Re: Best way to clean?
A guy really doesn't want to clean any junk silver either. People expect it to have a gray-colored appearance. In a SHTF environment shiney coins might be refused because a trader thinks their fake.
